Frequently Asked Questions

-What’s the fastest way to get in contact with you? We have tried to call!!

Our practice currently employs three people: Dr. Miller, Reid Hatcher and Danielle LaMarre. Often times, all three of these individuals are working/on the road. Because of our phone systems, service to hold a phone conversation can be spotty at best. In order to prevent any lagging, untoward frustration, or missed information we recommend that all owners text versus call. If a phone conversation need happen, they frequently occur at the end of day or the following day (as scheduling permits). Additionally, Dr. Miller is largely unavailable for phone calls during the day due to scheduling constraints. While she loves to touch base and chat with you all, we all know she never stops talking… and we have a schedule to attempt to keep.

-I need to be seen tomorrow, what do I do??

As of July 2025, Iron Horse is currently scheduling 4-6 weeks into advance. We have been exceedingly fortunate to be so well received by the community, and we are doing all that we can in order to attempt to serve our region. If immediate requests are needed (i.e. 24-48hr turn around), an emergency or urgent care fee will apply to all appointments. Additionally, depending on the needs/requests, IVS may request that you haul-in to our home base location.

-What is a VCPR (or Valid-Client-Patient-Relationship), and why does everyone keep talking about it??

A VCPR is the professional relationship between you, your animal(s), and your veterinarian. It exists when your veterinarian knows your animal well enough—typically through a recent physical examination or regular visits—to make informed decisions about the animal’s health. This relationship is the foundation of safe, effective veterinary care and must legally be in place before your veterinarian can diagnose a condition, prescribe medication, or treat your animal.

At IVS, a VCPR is obtained by having at least two of the following:

  • At least one exam performed within the calendar year

  • At least one set of vaccines (spring or fall) administered by IVS +/- EIA testing

  • Dental exam/equilibration performed by IVS

Any client who does not meet these requirements are considered “non-clients” and may be subject to additional fees if being scheduled or seen on an emergency/urgent care basis.

Further information about VCPRs can be found here, provided by the American Veterinary Medical Association.

-Can’t Dr. Miller just approve medications for me online??

If you and your animal have an active VCPR as mentioned above, we absolutely can fill prescription medications online!! However, to minimize the amount of time spent for all staff members chasing down prescriptions through the various platforms, we require all prescription requests to be submitted through our online pharmacy. If prescriptions are approved via other platforms, they may be subject to a written prescription fee to cover time and expenses associated with approval.

-Do you guys see dogs/cats?

Unfortunately, given the exceptional demand for an equine veterinarian in this region, IVS has migrated to equine-only in terms of client basis. While there is sometimes select vaccine availability for farm dogs/cats, this is exceptionally rare and only occurs when Dr. Miller orders vaccines for her private animals. Additionally, farm animals that are vaccinated by IVS are not provided emergency services or any diagnostics. Iron Horse continues to provide in-house euthanasia for small animals on an “as available” basis.

-What locations/regions do you guys cover?

Iron Horse Veterinary Services is currently based out of Bonifay, FL. While we cover an expansive network for emergency calls, regularly scheduled appointments and clients are limited to a 60 mile circumferential radius. Other barns and locations (i.e. over 60 miles) may be accepted on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of IVS staff.

-Do you have a price sheet?

At this time, IVS does not currently have a published price sheet. If you have questions regarding pricing structure, please do not hesitate to contact us via text or website inquiry with details of your request. Estimates are usually put together within a 24 hour period.
